What is a Maltipoo?

The Maltipoo is a cross between a Maltese and a Poodle. It’s a small dog that comes in three sizes, Teacup, Toy or Mini, depending on the type of poodle used in breeding.

Unlike some of the other small doodle breeds like the mini Goldendoodle, both the Maltese and the poodle are considered to be non-shedding and hypoallergenic. This means that Maltipoo is also a hypoallergenic, non-shedding breed.

Where to find a Maltipoo Rescue?

The best places to look for a Maltipoo in need of a home is at breed specific rescue that focuses on the Maltese, small poodles or doodle types dogs. Not all Maltese Rescue groups will help mix breed dogs, therefore we have only listed rescues that state they serves Maltese mix pups.

Is it hard to find a Maltipoo Rescue?

Yes. It can be hard to find a Maltipoo Rescue. Because of all their wonderful qualities these dogs don’t end up in need of home very often. In fact at the time of this writing there were only 34 Maltipoos available for adoption on Petfinder.com in all of the USA.

But that doesn’t mean you can’t find one. You just need to know where to look. Plus it helps to be flexible with age and breeding. It’s rare that you will find a young designer puppy looking for a new home. Plus a Maltipoo rescue may have some other breeds mixed in too.

7 Tips for finding a Maltipoo Rescue

  • Look through our list of rescue groups and find the ones near you.
  • Then like them on Facebook and sign up for email notices if they have that option.

  • Get everything in order so you can apply quickly when a pup becomes available.
  • Complete the application in its entirety. Don’t leave out information.

Other Places to Look for a Maltipoo Rescue

While breed specific groups are a good source to look for a Maltipoo, they can also be found at local shelters or rescues that serve a specific area rather than a specific breed. The best way to find these dogs is to use a service like Petfinder.com or Rescueme.org. I used both while looking for our pup, Bella.

Both of these services allow you to search for the type of dog you are looking for. They both also have an alert feature that will notify you when a dog matches your criteria.

Where not to look for a Maltipoo Rescue

Be careful of advertisements and websites that say they have Maltipoos for adoption. Often these places are online puppy brokers that are looking to sell you a puppy rather than a true adoption group. These places will have a lot of doodles available with high adoption prices.

Always check with the Better Business Bureau to see if there are any complaints and Guide Star to see if they are a true 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Remember if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

Hi -

I think your best bet is going to be keeping an eye on Petfinder.com to see if one comes up at a local rescue that is not breed specific.

If you are willing to travel, Carolina Poodle Rescue might be a good place to find a Maltipoo. They tend to have smaller doodles available and allow out of state adoptions but you have to go to them after being approved for adoption.

You can find their information in this post

Best of luck.
