What is a Maltipoo?

The Maltipoo is a cross between a Maltese and a Poodle. It’s a small dog that comes in three sizes, Teacup, Toy or Mini, depending on the type of poodle used in breeding.

Unlike some of the other small doodle breeds like the mini Goldendoodle, both the Maltese and the poodle are considered to be non-shedding and hypoallergenic. This means that Maltipoo is also a hypoallergenic, non-shedding breed.

Where not to look for a Maltipoo Rescue

Be careful of advertisements and websites that say they have Maltipoos for adoption. Often these places are online puppy brokers that are looking to sell you a puppy rather than a true adoption group.

These places will have a lot of doodles available with high adoption prices.

Always check with the Better Business Bureau to see if there are any complaints and Guide Star to see if they are a true 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Remember if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

I was lucky to get a 1 yr old maltipoo rescue but she was a puppy mill rescue and had extensive emotional issues- however-the great news is after 4 months she's come so far you would never know she had any issues. I love her to pieces. I'm looking for a sibling for her--doesn't have to be a maltipoo, just small. I live in central NY state, not NY city.

Hi -

I think your best bet is going to be keeping an eye on Petfinder.com to see if one comes up at a local rescue that is not breed specific.

If you are willing to travel, Carolina Poodle Rescue might be a good place to find a Maltipoo. They tend to have smaller doodles available and allow out of state adoptions but you have to go to them after being approved for adoption.

You can find their information in this post

Best of luck.
