Are you ready to share your life with a Goldendoodle Rescue?

Before you start looking for a Goldendoodle to adopt, make sure you know what you’re getting into. While the Goldendoodle is a fun loving, easily trainable family dog, they are also a high energy pup that needs frequent grooming.

Things to consider when getting a Goldendoodle rescue

  • While the Goldendoodle comes in four sizes, the Standard Goldendoodle, the Medium Goldendoodle, the Mini Goldendoodle and the Toy Goldendoodle, you may not be able to get the size you want at a rescue. The smaller doodles are in very high demand making it difficult to find one.
  • The Goldendoodle is prone to separation anxiety. This means they need to have someone around during most of the day. They are not content to be left alone for long periods of time.
  • They also need daily exercise in the form of walks and playtime.
  • A Goldendoodle will require professional grooming every 6 to 8 weeks. Professional grooming can be expensive.
  • Large doodles can cost over $100 to be professionally groomed. When you consider they will need to be groomed every one and a half months, the total grooming costs could be as high as $600 to $1,000 annually.
  • You also need to be prepared for life with a rescue dog. Sometimes rescue dogs come from difficult lives or have special needs. They may require special care and guidance to help them live a normal life.

Hi there, I have a 6 year old male golden doodle that I have to surrender. How do I start this process? I am willing to foster him until needed.

Hi-

I am sorry to hear about your need to re-home your dog. It must be hard. I have only ever taking in rescues, never had to re-home one.

Most doodle rescue groups offer re-homing services. Many even have waiting lists of families that are looking for a rescue doodle.

Try contacting a Doodle/Poodle Rescue in your area or one of the national Doodle Rescues.

I suggest contacting a few rescues to vet them before deciding which one to work with. Ask them about how they select new owners so that you are comfortable with where your dog goes.

The rescue will be able to tell you how the process works.

Best of luck,

Bonnie
